Hi and welcome to the catnip thread:pl:

Folks,I was not sure,which forum to post,this thread,cousine,medicinal,garden,I dunno????

I would like to show you,my first time attempt,of growing this beautifull plant. It's good for some cats and also good for humans.

Now,there was my first eye opener.I assumed, cats only,up till recently.

There is info on the net, about it's medicinal effect on humans,me no expert, just what I read.

I bought some seeds of (Nepenta cataria)catnip, one tub to hold the 25 lbs bag of soil, covered with saran wrap(cold nites) at around 13th of May.

I grew it,just like marijuana in soil, nutes, watering etc....

This is the second time,I sat up and pay attention, cause somebody said,it could be smoked, just like a marijuana joint...wow...does anybody know/heard,if that indeed is a fact?

I have a small bud drying and it should be dry,in few more days and I am going to sacrifice myself,in the name of catnip,to find the answer.
It ain't gona kill me,I might sleep good or meow...lol...

The cat loves it and she also eats it,rolls in it,you know the drill....

The pic with the cat is from 10 days ago, harvested the plants today, here some pix.

Peace...GP...

my sophomore year of college my roomates were always pinching my stash, one time I retaliated by putting catnip in my usual container, later that night they asked me what kind of shit weed that was and I got a good laugh telling them they smoked kitty-nip :pointlaugh:

Hi Human

thanx for stopin' in.I like your cats" happy look "...lol....
You got the good stuff bro, your cat knows.Right on.

I hope, that everybody wishing to show their catnip bud porn, will do so.

If you gaogle catnip for medicinal/human use,it's quite impressive line up,what it supposedly does for people.
Sleep,crankiness,tothache,stomach,teas,cooking...wow...

Skitty,good story about smokin.Did they get high...lol...???:whacky114:
I bet,if you were to mix it with herb say 50-50,it might be OK.
Peace...GP...

we luv catnip here i get the petsmart catnip plants and go through a couple every soummer i tried some seeds that didnt even sprout my 3 cats wont even smell the store brand catnip there so spoiled they only like the plant,,,,

CQ,used to buy the catnip in the store and it would get ignored sometimes.

Saxby,I did not prune(should have) the plants, just the way they turned out,had 9 inches of rain.

Big,bud needs another 2 days to dry,no curing so.....or flushing....hmm...:deadhorse2:

We've been missing the boat, we grow catnip for the kids but I didn't know it would nug out like that. Poor guys have just been getting leaf, they love it those, I bet some cured nugs would lay waste to them. :) Well that's one of the reasons I love this place, now I know better and will go for buds from here on out.

haha,

thats cute.

lil buggers, they been wantin to tell ya all along...
we need to get back to that connection with everything..
then they coulda just told you, "grow em out to nugs ,family":gramps:
lol

the benefits of the plant are pretty special from what i read.
my grandmother used to use it in tea at night to sleep i remember.
and i think i have a book on native americans around here somewhere that talks about them mixing it with tobacco as a smoke. also other herbs were mixed in sometimes but supposedly the catnip and tobacco together produces a mild effect.
yet to try it though.

My other kitty, the Bandit, does not like catnip or LUI's(the black cat)

sooo,I got her some wild mint (Mentha arvensis) and she appears to like it.
I picked some,for her,to dry out and see,what happens.

Human,I was going to go and make some kinnikinnick(red willow) for mixing with catnip, later on.No tobacco, here anymore.

:D
very nice, should be a nice mix...

uhmm... isnt kinnikkinnik also a plant? "bearberry" i think?

i think thats also used in smoking blends. (or used to be?) lol

i agree, tobacco is pretty bad...

i do still smoke it sometimes ,
only that which I or my father grows though.

i think its like anything, if one dosent misuse it
the benefits should outweigh the risks.

the habitual smoking of it is totally bad, for sure
a Native saying was that, if we abuse it,
the way it tells us that its wrong
is by making us sick. It will do this
until we learn to listen....

...or something to that effect. lol

thats basically how I feel about it.

and you got some beautiful kitties mate!
love how you grow lots of stuff , and for the kittys to. :)

i need neighbors like you guys man.
lol

:adore:

i had a nice mix saved on a thumb drive somewhere,
was my dads i think... illl try n find it. :)

I am gonna grow me a patch for my kitty also and where do I get the seeds ??

A buddy of mine got all his Catnip ripped out by the cops thinking looked way too much like Cannabis and was like 7 feet tall and totally branched out hahahaha He was bummed cause it came back every year there and they ripped up the roots and all .:sick3:

I have some Cat nip, Mountain Mint, chocolate mint, and a common mint. I like mints.. did you guys know that Cat nip is a mint? Lamiaceae You can tell by the square stem.

Lamiaceae includes Basil, Thyme, Oregano, and Lavender to name a few.

You learn this as like a cub scout cause in the wilderness you can eat all of these. So, you're all equipped to survive in the wilderness now. ;)

Last nite,I could not resist and took a small branch of drying catnip and gave it Luis.

She played a bit,aet a bit of it and after a minute, the poor thing she was stoned...lol...no modesty at all, nose running, couch lock happened to her, bugged out eyes and blank look...lol....lasted few minutes, than she was playing, again.

I did not know, that it could be so powerfull, she also started to eat her food after a while.....

Peace...GP...:wavey:

My kitty unfortunately has no attraction to catnip what so ever. She couldn't be less interested in it.
But, I grew some catnip last year in an outdoor garden and the neighborhood cats were digging it out of the snow to get to it.

After the canna breeding project. I'm gonna grow some 'Lemon Catnip' and sell the dryed product to petshops, on-line, vets, etc.

If you guys haven't tryed the lemon type, it's some good stuff.

btw....Catnip tea is really good if you can't sleep.

did you guys know that most cats in Australia are not susceptible to catnip?

weird.

imagine if one country was affected by cannabis and another felt no effects?
nuts :afraid:

:jester:

I have made tea with catnip and it does have a calming effect on me,sleep was good later on.
The relaxation feels simular to the smoke and it lasts for quite long time 3-5 hrs
I am not a tea drinker, but I mixed some honey with it,was nice to drink.

I wonder how it would taste on/in a pizza or stew??

One point, that I would like to pass on, as far as smoking is concerned,my friend(has to stay clean, due to monthly testing) figures it would be OK to use as a substitute for a smoke to satisfy the urge to light up and stay clean.

I guess better that nothing and it taste like menthol, nice actually.

I have a patch in the back corner of the garden with 4 varieties. My old cat spends the day sunning himself on a big flat rock right beside the patch and in the morning he walks through there like he's checking the plants. He has never eaten any while they grow but once it's dried and got a cure on look out.

He gets a pinch 2 or 3 times a week and for the first 1-3 minutes he's gonzo. After that he plays cute for a while and then nap time.

Because we do the farmers markets selling our culinary herbs a lot of the folks swear by catnip tea for sleeping.

Here is a jar of catnip, curing.
Will see,what happens to it a month.

I do enjoy, drinking the minty tasting catnip and teaspoon of honey, using a pinky finger size bud and infuse it in warmish water for 5 minutes or so.

In my case,I have noticed a "peacefull stomach",very nice un-expected benefit.Yes,it also,does relax me,some.

I believe, some folks, looking for relaxation from aches/pain,would benefit from a cup of catnip tea and "prefered herb".Just my 2 cents.
You know,what works...lol...

After drying it for 7-8 days, the stems would snap and gave it to both cats and they both got a nice buzz out of it.They want to eat it,first.
Even,the one cat,Bandit,that before turned up,it's nose at it....lol....no problemo,loves it now.

Peace...GP...:wavey:

Good post folks. I have heard that it effects the same areas of the brain as pot does to humans. No wonder they like it.
