Howdy all, Pigfarmer here... Nice to meet you all. I look forward to being a part of the Canna Cabana Community. The coco section especially gets me excited. :yay:

So here goes...
I have been growing for a little over 3 n 1/2 years now & I have been in coco for the last 2 of them.

I simply love the hobby feeling I get from growing in this wonderful CoCo Medium.

I had been hand watering Coco Pots previously & had great results, I just didn't like how I couldn't get away for a day or 2, w/o the need for a plant bitch to do my daily feedings...

So I decided to go with Flood & Drain setup. :takin_picture:

Room setup

Currently flowering in a 4x8 Sunhut with Co2 Boost Bucket & 1k HPS above each table.

vbpgimage.php

I have 2 tables each with its own 25gallon Res setting 10feet below my flower room in my cool basement.
vbpgimage.php

I am using Durapumps with a 13foot head on them to get my feedings to the table.

Nutrient & Feeding Regime

Currently using Obsoul33t's "Recipe" which goes like this...
vbpgimage.php

1 Gallon 0ppm R/O water
Vita Grow Water Conditioner 2ml
Cal-Mag 5ml
Banana Manna 23ml
Crystal Black 14ml
Liquid Gold 12ml
Pro-Tekt 2.5ml
"1st week veg" B'cuzz Roots 3.5ml

After I add the above, I then add Pure Blend Pro Grow until I reach my desired PPM which is currently at EC 2.0. I continue this until 21 days into flower, I then stop the grow nutes & switch and use the same base mix & add a 50/50 mix of PureBlend Pro Bloom & Foxfarms's Bigbloom untill i reach EC 2.0.

I run my PH at 5.6-6.0

COCO Mix

As for the CoCo Medium, I have mixed up a mix of 50% Empire Organics coco husks, 25% botanicare coco & 25% Foxfarm chunky perlite.
vbpgimage.php

The Empire Coco looks to be great for flood & drain, My only complaint is, I had to flush the living piss outta the stuff to get it useable.. 1st rinse was 1000ppm runoff.. I ran 50gals of r/o water thru the 4cu foot bale b4 i got runoff under 100ppm...

Plants are planted in 2gal Smart pots.

Good to cya ya OB!

You weren't missing it, it only went up about 20mins ago, lol

Straight up loving the "Recipe" I cannot thank you enuff for the advice you laid down my friend. :dancer:

hey pf, tell me a little more about those 'smart pots.' i've been thinkin about something like that for a while. it looks like weed fabric, what is it?

really cool setup man. I like it a lot. The organic nute regimin, lights, everything looks real nice and I especially like those bags. So the roots grow through them? I've never seen those before. What's your take on them?

Oh and I need to know, does that Co2 boost do anything? I've read very mixed reviews on it.....for the $ I think I might go for the real deal but I'm looking to upgrade to CO2 so let me know....

Yah, it is fairly similar to the weed fabric you speak of.. Made from a lot thicker material tho... Prolly 3x as thick.

The pots air prune your rootball as they grow.. Here is a link to the smartpots website. I'm in love with them, Keeps event he finest "pith" type coco outta your rez.
http://www.smartpots.com/

I don't think you can buy them from there tho..
I buy mine from http://www.waterbabysindoor.com These cats also have a great COCO section & are very helpful. They even have lovely southern accents, lol
The Smart Pots aren't listed on the site, but if you call them they have em in all kinds of sizes.

Another cool thing about these pots is they are washing machine washable... Just reverse roll them off your rootball like you would a condom, heheh.. Then toss em in the washmachine on Gentle & use a ZYME product in place of your detergent...

On the co2 boost bucket, bro I honestly don't have a clue... This is my 1st run with these strains and these nutes and this hut. I have no scale to compare to so to speak...

I'd really like to know myself, I'd like to think it at least does sumthing. lol

I think I will be going with a tank, monitor & controller for this summers heat. Quite a investment tho...

Hey pigfarmer!

I get the EO chips from Waterbabys to use in E&F, too. Here's a method flushing the coco without wasting so much water:

1. Initial soak to hydrate the coco - at least 4 hours. I usually leave mine overnight. Mix it around occasionally while soaking. This leaches a lot of the crud out. Drain. I don't bother measuring the ppm's at this point.

2. Second soak - at least 2 hours, I usually leave it for 4. Mix occasionally. Drain. The ppm of the drain water is usually around 1200.

3. Last soak - 1-2 hours. Mix occasionally. Drain. The ppm of the water is usually around 500.

4. Test - Run a gallon of water over a test batch of coco. At this point, the drain water for me is below 100 ppm (the batch I did yesterday came out at 70ppm). If the test water is above 100 ppm, do another 1-2 hour soak.

For 1/2 bale, this used about 17 gallons of water. To help bring the pH of the coco down a bit, I adjust the pH of the soak water to the low 5's.

Thanks 4 that Liz, Just in time 2! I was planning on doing up another bail this week... Wasn't looking forward to it... I will give this a try.

I was soaking it for about 2 hours, then placing it into a rubbermaid that I had drilled holes in the bottom, and then i'd start flushing & flushing & flushing & flushing, lol I'm sure u get the point.

Pigfarmer nice grow brotha! I also like the looks of those smart pots and like how your using two different course coco's...rock on man!

That be some FINE FINE bud porn!

What are these coco chips, Piggy? In all our talks you never brought those up and whats the diff between them and the other coco?

Made the jump huh bro? heheheh Good seeing ya here man...

Yes they are basically Coco Croutons

Empire Organics Premium Organic CoCo-Chips are 1/2” to 3/4” chunks of coconut husk that have been processed with the same rigorous procedures and standards as our other products to produce a advanced hydroponic substrate

Coco Chips are a premium, certified organic, OMRI Listed growing medium and superior alternative to expanded clay and rockwool. Coir is the coarse fibers and sponge like material that make up the thick husk of the coconut fruit. At our factory in the interior of Sri Lanka selected husks are first soaked to soften then chopped into small chunks. Once the material is cut it is then twice screened to remove small particles, composted and super washed to ensure a extremely pure, high quality substrate.

Shit is still more salty then a bums nutsac! lol

Since you are going to be hand watering coco, I would prolly stick with the Botanicare cocogro.. It is lots easier to prepare, only requires 1 flushing "sum don't even do that", and it holds water better. I was handwatering 3gal coco pots every other day to every 3rd in the winter with botanicare, these husks would require daily feedings, maybe even more in the location ur heading....

Hope that helps.

Forgot to mention, I'm currently flooding 3x during lights on for 5mins each.
