Res Above Plants ?

I think it's possible, but I haven't seen how to set up a hydro system where the reservoir is above the growing containers. I'm thinking something like a sump pump maybe? How do you prevent floods if the pump fails or there's a blackout?


Do any of you know how it's done? Have any pics or sketches?

With bluemats and coco the res is always above the plants. Its a non recirculating system. Lots of info on it in the ICmag.

I'd like a recirculating system. Seems wasteful to drain them.

Seem like the solution is a low pressure check valve that will work with the little pump, so it can't flow backwards. Wonder where to get one?

edit: Well, that was quick. Found a video of how to make one using a couple PVC fittings & a kids rubber ball, for about $1.

Get yourself one of those UPS(uninterrupted power sources) for computers. This won't work for pump failure, but works well for power outages. Especially if you aero clone! All of my pumps timers are plugged into UPS's.
