How terpenes can affect the THC high

“Selected cannabis terpenes synergize with THC to produce increased CB1 receptor activation.” That's the title of the journal article referred to in this piece about terpenes:

Basically, some terpene compounds actually synergize with THC in their effect on the CB1 receptor, so that they add to the high. Other terpenes have no effect at the CB1 receptor, and others actually reduce the THC high (go figure).

Side note: do you know offhand what combination of primary terpenes gives haze varieties their characteristic "incense/sandalwood/church" odors?
