Some Strains Unhappy in Potting Mix

Defacto

I'm pretty lazy and just grow in Scotts potting mix.

Some strains seem unhappy early on.

Is that because the mix is a bit to hot for them?

The yellowing here I would have thought they wanted nitrogen but with fresh mix, that can't be this early can it?

I see what looks like Mg deficiency in the 2nd photo; not sure about the first.

I would leave them alone for now; they may grow out of this.

You hit the nail on the head Variety. (Red Cheese)

I agree 180 but that seems unlikely don't you think?

Defacto, some of the cultivars I hold show deficiencies when they're growing fast, after transplant. Usually these problems resolve after the plants root in. You could give them a little shot of epsom salts if you want to do something. I would top dress them with a small amount (those are smallish pots, so maybe a teaspoon per plant, no more). But a wait-and-see approach is probably okay, too. It's early days yet my friend :)

ic, so it CAN actually be a deficiency!

I hadn't considered that it could be as caused, as you say, by the roots being behind the foliage growth.

My thought was the mix is fresh, how can it be deficient?

You showed me how! Thanks
