1. Preparation
a. Ensure a clean and sanitized workspace.
b. Gather all materials needed for the expansion and planting process.

2. Unpacking
a. Carefully remove HortGrow Grow Cubes from their packaging.
b. Inspect the cubes for any damage or defects.

3. Soaking and Expansion
a. Place the HortGrow Grow Cubes in a large container, tray, or growing bench.
b. Slowly add water to the container, ensuring even saturation.
  • Tap water may be used for this step.
  • The drain may be plugged for this step, to allow for filling, the cubes will absorb the water. Optionally, valves can be installed on drain lines for trays that will be regularly used for expanding cubes.
c. Allow the cubes to soak until nearly or fully expanded. The time may vary, so regularly monitor the cubes during the soaking process.
d. Observe the cubes as they absorb water and expand.
e. Ensure that the cubes are nearly or fully expanded and have a uniform consistency.

4. Rinse
a. Once the cubes are nearly or fully expanded, perform one more pass watering through, with open drains.
b. Optionally, this rinse can contain a buffering solution or full-strength feed solution, if desired.

5. Ready for Transplanting
a. The expanded and planted HortGrow Grow Cubes are now ready for transplanting. Place starts in the center of the container, about ¾” to 1 ½” deep. Then lightly water in with a full strength nutrient solution.

6. Observation
a. Regularly monitor the moisture levels in the Grow Cubes to ensure proper hydration.
b. Adjust watering frequency based on plant needs and environmental conditions.

8. Safety Precautions
- Follow safety guidelines for handling and moving containers with water.

9. Record Keeping
- Maintain records of the time taken for cubes to nearly or fully expand, details of the rinse step, soaking times, planting dates, and any observations during the process for quality control and traceability.
